2017 recap photo

Pull up a chair and let’s talk over a cup of tea on what 2017 had in store for me. Instead of the 12 Trip Challenge, I’m doing a 2017 recap. This year has seen me in better circumstances but at the same time, chock full of adventures.

The year 2017 started out along the frigid Baltic Coast of Poland where, I kid you not, slept through New Years. It was a fantastic two weeks as Christmas 2016 I spent on the island of Cyprus, which was a totally unexpected destination. To be honest, I was not too keen on Cyprus to begin with but ended up having an unforgettable holiday, vowing to someday return. Not long after January passed into February I had received troubling news from my family where I saw myself back in Poland and by my father’s side as his shoulder to cry on and pillar of support. Not the best time in 2017.

Upon my return back home to Germany in late February, I handed in my resignation from my job to start a new adventure. I was headed for Switzerland. I had less than one month to segregate, sort and consolidate my entire life for a new home and move to Italy. I know what you must be thinking, “why Italy when you’ve said you’re off to Switzerland?” Easy. The job was just along the border of Southern Switzerland and I chose to live in Italy and commute to work. Besides, who wouldn’t want to live on Lake Como?

Lake Como Italy

I bid farewell to Northern Germany and waved an Italian greeting to Lake Como where I spent a whopping three months and no more. During that time I also traveled to Hong Kong where I got violently ill for half of the trip. Another fun fact about my year in 2017 is that I took up photography professionally. Since May 2017 until…now, I’ve been in London – yes, every month since – doing photoshoots.

In late July I had lost my job. Before you go on with “oh, I’m so sorry” comments, it was honestly for the best. I learned that I prefer to visit Italy rather than live there and the job didn’t meet my expectations nor what was written on paper. By the good graces and amazing friends I have, they collected my and my things out of Italy and 12 hours of driving through Switzerland, Lichtenstein and a bit of Austria, I’m back ‘home’ in Germany. I’m onto new things but since then I’ve been on the search for the perfect job. Guys, I really love my day job in fashion just as much as I love traveling, so I hope you’ll understand why I can’t exactly give it up.

However, I never stopped traveling in 2017. In fact, the entirety of 2017 has been nothing but traveling! I’ve been to Slovakia, Austria, explored parts of Italy, a bit into Hungary and lots of trips to the U.K.

In the meantime, I’ve been going crazy. It feels very strange not going to work every day. So, I’ve started a few freelance ventures and made an impulse “vacation” back to the U.S. to visit my family for the holidays. After all, it’s been nearly three years since I’ve seen them. I will ring in 2018 in Colorado or somewhere in the U.S. and will return back home to Germany in January 2018.

To sum it all up, in 2017 I ate my feelings in ice cream…

…a lot of ice cream.

Oh come on, don’t judge me!
